So Blair and I had been praying for a couple of years for guidance on where next to live, Blair wanted views of mountains, I wanted to be in Rangiora. In 99.9% of life we agree or we compromise but this was a biggy and we couldn’t get on the same page.
On Anzac day this year (2015) I went to a couple of open homes and felt a bit deflated that we would never find the next home that gave us perfect and amazing peace like our current home did when we first walked in the door.
We live 2 doors down from the new Highgate subdivision and on a whim Blair suggested we go look at the massive signpost which is less than 100m away from our place. Once there Blair had a God moment, “What’s wrong with this section?” he asked, the one the sign post was on. We turned around and boom there is the gorgeous Mount Grey that we love and Blair works on. It was literally sold and ours that second.
The next point of slight disagreement was ‘what do we do when we are building?’ servicing 2 mortgages on one and a half incomes with a family wasn’t ideal. Moving in with Blair’s parents wasn’t ideal for me, moving in with my parents wasn’t ideal for Blair…We both have seriously awesome and generous parents by the way. We weren’t ready to sell for another 6 months, so I was searching on TradeMe for flats or cottages. Blair firmly told me (Blair’s not a firm man but when he is you better pay attention) that we need to have faith that he was believing for us to walk the 3 doors down with all our stuff, one move, 100 meters done. In truth I knew that God was good but that was a bit of a pipeline dream and a bit too optimistic for me.
Long story short, I flicked an email to an old work mate of mine who mentioned once before that she loved our home. A lovely Christian family who had wanted to get out of their tc3 property for a while.
Her family came through and before seeing half of the house said they wanted it. We explained our situation to them that we weren’t ready to sell but they were putting their house on the market and keen to move on. “How about we buy it as soon as possible and you rent it off us till your new place is built!” Their tc3 property sold in 3 short weeks!
Problem solved! Money freed up, a new house being built (with mountain views!) We have sold to beautiful people who will be our new neighbors and both of our families are able to give all glory to God. He’s such a good Dad and both families feel like winners, because we are!
